Quarries Park

Quarries Park is located beside Merri Creek in Clifton Hill and can be accessed from Ramsden Street. Yembla Reserve, Walker Street Reserve and Ramsden Street Reserve joins with the park to make it a large area for visitors to engage in recreational activities. Quarries park form part of parks and reserves connected with walking paths which in turn connected to Main Yarra trail and Merri Creek Trail.

The park has a unique children’s playground which is made mostly from natural materials.

Near the park, close to Merry creek is the Merri Creek Labyrinth. Merri Creek Labyrinth was created by local residents over summer 2001 – 2002. Friends of Labyrinth was formed in 2011 to take care of it. The Labyrinth design is classic Cretan Labyrinth adopted from the oldest known Labyrinth design carved in stone around Mediterranean from at least 1200 BC.

The land of the park was under Melbourne Corporation in 1842 and the Corporation established Melbourne Corporation Quarries north of Ramsden Street to the east of Yembla Street. The area south of Ramsden Street were largely occupied by quarrymen like Samuel Ramsden and Henry Brown.
