With an emphasis on interactivity, science works, science and technology museum makes learning science, fun for children. Managed by Museum Victoria, science museum is located in the suburb of Spotswood. The museum building was inaugurated on 28th March 1992 and located near the historic Spotswood pumping station. The pumping station constructed in 1897, was a key part of the Melbourne’s first centralised sewage system. The Science Museum also offers tours of the restored pumping station.

Displays and activities offered by the museum include hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and tours. The Museum also incorporates Melbourne Planetarium.

The major attractions include

Think Ahead – This exhibition is about speculative future advancements in communication, medicine, health, music and sound. It blends innovative technology with hands on experience to research and think creatively.

Sports works – It is a place for children to leap, run, throw and row and compare their skills with some of the best known sports people.

Nitty Gritty City – This is designed for 3 to 8 year olds to interact with sounds and objects in a mini metropolis environment.

Melbourne Planetarium

It features a 16m domed ceiling, reclining seats and stereo surround sound system to create a simulated display of the night sky. The full dome video projection system creates a seamless, super high resolution video image providing an awe inspiring astronomical experience.
