Situated 30km south east of Melbourne CBD, at the suburb of Lysterfield in the city of Casey, Lysterfield Park is a popular picnic spot in Melbourne. The park land is around 3450 acres and is close to the Churchill National Park. Churchill National Park and Lysterfield lake park form a valuable link between Dandenong Ranges and Dandenong Valley. Joining of the two parks has increased the area accessible by the public. The park was created following the decommissioning of the Lysterfield Reservoir which was built in 1936.
The farms surrounding the reservoir were purchased to maintain the water quality at the reservoir. The Lysterfield reservoir was built to cater the water supply needs of Mornington Peninsula and Frankston. Lysterfield Reservoir was decommissioned following the opening of Cardinia Reservoir in 1974.
