Aura Vale Lake Park

The 67-hectare Aura Vale Lake Park situated next to Cardinia Reservoir along Wellington Road is a popular picnic spot in Menzies Creek. This is also a popular venue for boating activities including sailboarding and canoeing but limited to rowing small non-powered boats. Swimming is prohibited due to the poor water quality.

South side of the lake is the Henley Picnic area, which has toilet facilities, open lawns and a car park. You may bring your gas BBQ for use in the park but solid fuel BBQs are not allowed. No BBQs allowed on total fire ban day like other parks and picnic spots in the area.

The purpose of this artificial lake, built at the same time as Cardinia Reservoir in the 1970’s is to collect run off water from nearby farms thus preventing it from entering the Cardinia Reservoir. In short this is a lake of polluted water.  This explains the prohibition of swimming here. Moreover, there are granite boulders submerged at some areas of the lake. In its early years, this was a popular swimming spot for the locals.  Fishing is permitted but due to water pollution, it is not advisable to eat the fish from the lake.
